I run a solo game for my wife with it, so balance is a non-issue for the most part, but the way the mechanics work, a small die pool can roll high 2 sixes on 4 dice is a very high resultand a big die pool can roll low those 2 sixes on 4 dice easily beat 3 threes on 6 dice.
You just kind of roll with it, and if lots of people are rolling, you'll get lots of swingy results. One thing I've done is created a skill list, for more grounded games.
